Benefits of Personal Training

When it comes to making progress in the gym (or most things actually) one on one attention is typically the most effective. You have someone who is completely committed to you, this has tremendous value. They are watching every rep, giving real time feedback, and dictating the program and the movements. There’s several reasons top athletes, actors, and people who are serious about their training hire personal trainers,

  • Accountability: Being accountable to one person with appointments scheduled is harder to break that commitment, than it is to break a commitment with yourself. It just is.
  • Customization: Everyone has slightly different goals and needs, a good personal trainer isn’t just walking you from machine to machine, they are going to listen to your goals, your current abilities, and customize an individual plan just for you. This ensures maximizing your time training.
  • Flexibility: Another benefit with PT is typically you can set appointments based on your schedule, group sessions have fixed times, and this doesn’t always work with people’s schedules, with a personal trainer you can set up times for your ideal time that works with your schedule.
  • Speed of progress: When a trainer is working one on one with you, they are going to push you harder than if you were on your own or even in a group, they are watching every move you do and are ensuring your pushing yourself. Whenever I work with a coach one on one, I push so much harder. In a group you can measure yourself against the group (which is good) but with a good trainer, they are pushing you to your own potential.
  • Safety: This is huge, many people don’t really know how to workout effectively and safely, sure they can throw some weights around, but when a trainer can ensure all movements are done properly and effectively, injury is highly unlikely. A good trainer finds that balance of pushing when needed, but also pulling back when form or technique is breaking down.

So while working out alone, or with a friend, or in a group is great and if that’s working don’t change anything, but if you're looking to really kickstart your fitness journey a good personal trainer might be something to look at.
