Everyone fall's into one of the 3 categories, which are you?

We all fall into one of the following categories when it comes to our health and fitness, it can change over time but it's good to know which one you are currently in.

  1. Decreasing health: Sadly this is the most common category in the US, I won't go into statistics, but you probably already know what's going on. Most people exercise very little if at all and don't pay much attention to nutrition. It's pretty simple, if you are not active and don't eat well you will continue to get more and more unhealthy as time goes by.
  2. Working on getting healthy: This is the category where people are working to get to a healthy state, or possibly they are healthy, but they have some specific goals they want to reach. People in this category need to work a little harder and dial things in to achieve their goals.
  3. Maintaining: This can be the sweet spot for a lot of people, this is where you are healthy and you have standards for yourself that you are able to maintain without needing to change much. It's much easier to maintain a standard once you're there than it is to initially get there.

So which are you? A good thing to do is to identify what your ideal standards are for yourself: How do you want to feel, how strong would you like to be, what's your ideal weight, how would you like your body to look? ect. It's good to get specific, and also realistic. For me I know the bodyweight I feel best at, I know how much weight I should be able to lift without too much difficulty, and I know how long I can go for a run, row, or bike ride without getting super gassed. So for me I am more in the maintenance category, if I notice I am slipping somewhere, I make some slight adjustments. If you're just starting out, just start with one goal or standard you want to shoot for, otherwise it's too much, then work on the next thing. Remember to be consistent and little by little you'll get there.
