Diet tips to lose weight

Many if not most people that come to the gym are looking to lose weight. With so many fad diets out there and different plans it can feel overwhelming. When I give nutrition advice I like to keep it super simple.I know if I require people to weigh and measure all of their food, we’re adding another difficult step to the process.  So here’s a few tips that are proven and will work.

  1. Take Pictures of your food: This is great if you're working with a coach or you have an accountability partner. The simple act of taking a picture of everything you eat and sending it to someone might make you think twice about a few choices.
  2. Eliminate the junk: Soda’s, candy, potato chips, ice cream, alcohol, etc. If you’re serious about getting healthy and losing weight, start with getting rid of the junk food. Many people will find that their diet might not need much adjusting if they can limit the junk food. Remember junk food’s purpose is not to provide nutrition or to fill you up, it’s packed with calories and keeps you wanting more.
  3. What to eat: Keep it simple: Meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, water, coffee, Tea. To get going and start losing body fat this approach will work. These foods will fill you up, leave you full and you won’t be loading up on the calories. Stay away from the pastas and breads. I think potatoes and rice are fine, they fill you up and aren't packed with calories. But to start you may want to avoid these also just to get some weight off.
  4. How long: Well that depends, sometimes people enjoy the way they feel eating this way and stay that way, others - after they lose the desired weight have a minimal approach to certain foods. The key is to get our bodies functioning optimally so we can get away with more and we don’t have to constantly be thinking about it. Dial things in for 6 weeks then reassess and see where you're at. The key is to make lasting healthy lifestyle habits that are sustainable, not do a diet for a few weeks then go right back to where you were.
